WWW Table of Neutron Capture Gammas: Definitions

Capture Gamma Type
  • Prompt - gamma ray immediately de-exciting the neutron capture state.
  • Delayed - gamma ray de-exciting a long-lived (>1 ms) level in the capure nucleus or populated by the decay of an activation product.

Cross Section Type

  • Elemental - cross section for neutron capure on element with normal abundance.
  • Isotopic - cross section from neutron capture on an isotope.

PGAA k0

  • Cross section relative to a standard hydrogen cross section σ(2223)=0.3326 barns per unit mass. Defined for a gamma from element Z with atomic weight Ar(Z) as

    k0(Z) = σγ(Z) / [Ar(Z)*0.3326]

Target nucleus

  • Nucleus that captures the neutron.
